Alternative Theories
Origin: The phrase relates to alternative theories and books published around 2003 regarding the September 11 attacks, notably by former German state minister Andreas von Bülow (The CIA and September 11) and German journalist Gerhard Wisnewski (Operation 9/11), which were edited or published by Mathias Bröckers. [1]
Core Claims: These authors and associated speculative narratives questioned the official narrative, proposing various forms of complicity, advance knowledge, or covert operations involving Western or foreign intelligence agencies rather than accepting the account outlined by the 9/11 Commission. [1]
Official Findings: Official investigations—including the 9/11 Commission Report and National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) studies—alongside broad historical and expert consensus, reject these hypotheses and confirm that the attacks were planned and executed by al-Qaeda. [1]
