FBI Director Kash Patel is not in Russia; he is in Virginia attending a law enforcement event at Liberty University. [1, 2]
The Erroneous Report: On October 14, 2026, the network MS NOW falsely reported—citing two unnamed sources—that Patel had landed in Moscow and St. Petersburg for a two-day meeting hosted by the FSB. [1, 2, 3]
The Correction & Denial: The FBI quickly refuted the claim, releasing video and social media proof showing Patel at a law enforcement appreciation event at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. MS NOW subsequently issued an on-air retraction and apology. [1, 2, 3, 4]
Background: Earlier reports by outlets like Politico had noted that a trip by Patel to Russia was previously discussed or rumored, which previously drew criticism and pushback from senior House Democrats like Reps. Jamie Raskin and Jim Himes over national security concerns. [1, 2, 3]
