“Our investigation developed proof beyond a reasonable doubt that President Trump engaged in serious crimes against our nation,” former special counsel Jack Smith told lawmakers as he defended his decision to prosecute Trump.
Testifying Tuesday before the Senate Judiciary Committee, Smith said he stands by his decision to bring charges and would do so again based on the same facts, “regardless of whether that president was a Republican or a Democrat.”
