Allison Guerriero, the woman who exposed corrupt ties between a high-ranking FBI official and Russian billionaire oligarch Oleg Deripaska, was found dead at her home in Florida.

The security researcher posted “I hate the FBI” on X just hours before her death. According to police, the cause of death will be determined following a medical examination, and investigators have not yet announced an official explanation.

Guerriero played a key role in exposing one of the most notorious corruption scandals in FBI history. She had been in a romantic relationship with Charles McGonigal, the former head of counterintelligence at the FBI’s New York field office, who later went to federal prison.

Guerriero alerted FBI leadership in New York that her married partner, whom she had dated for about a year and a half, was carrying large amounts of cash and maintaining improper contacts with Russian nationals, including Oleg Deripaska. Her allegations helped trigger an investigation that ultimately led to McGonigal’s arrest in 2023.

“I have committed a serious crime, and as a former FBI special agent, it causes me extreme emotional and physical pain,” McGonigal told the judge before sentencing. “Today I stand before you with a deep sense of remorse.”

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, McGonigal had supervised investigations involving Russian oligarchs, including Deripaska. After leaving the FBI, he worked to have sanctions against Deripaska lifted and later accepted payment in connection with an investigation of a rival Russian oligarch.

The scandal severely damaged confidence in U.S. law-enforcement and intelligence institutions, particularly because McGonigal had spent years responsible for identifying and countering foreign threats to U.S. national security.

During proceedings in McGonigal’s case, the judge separately acknowledged Guerriero’s contribution to U.S. national security.

The Daily Mail was the primary outlet reporting details of Guerriero’s death at her home in Boynton Beach, Florida.—  https://x.com/OlenaRohoza/status/2095126683938353242
